About the Bowen Technique

knee moveBowen Therapy is a hands-on, light remedial therapy that can be applied over loose fitted clothing (Not jeans). Developed by an Australian man called Thomas Bowen in the 1950’s, the therapy became introduced in the UK in 1993.

The technique is non-invasive, so does not use any manipulation or adjustment of hard tissue or any needles, which makes it ideal for everyone from new-born infants to the elderly and infirm. The experience of a treatment is known for being gentle, subtle and relaxing.

The technique is made up of a unique sets of rolling type moves using the therapist’s fingers and thumbs, which stimulate the muscles and soft tissue underneath.  Interspersed with rest periods between each set of moves, this therapy helps the body begin to achieve holistic balance straight away, embracing the client’s physical and emotional aspects.

The technique is based on the theory that these gentle moves performed over precise points on the body can prompt the body’s innate ability to relieve pain, restriction and imbalance.

The Bowen Technique both balances and stimulates the whole body. When the body is relaxed, the restorative process and healing is able to happen.
